PETER MANIATIS
7th.
Sept. 2005
Young
Victor managed to sit him down
for an interview - Here it is all summarized.
Peter
Maniatis has been promoting boxing and managing boxers since 1998 a
total of 22 events.
The
first boxer he managed was Nick Tetoros who achieved #8 rating in WBO.
Now
he manages James Grima who is fighting for the OPBF title Oct. 14th.
Shannon
McMahon now fighting for the Australian title Oct 14th.
Johnny
Walker fighting for the Victorian title also on October 14th.
Costa
Chondros fighting for the Australian title eliminator Oct.
14th.
Maniatis
told Young Victor in his own words that the key to being a good manager
is getting title fights for his fighters "ones they can win",
he also emphasized that the money was not important as long as his
fighters had a better than a 50/50 chance of winning the title.
Maniatis
added that boxers box firstly because they love the sport, secondly for
titles and thirdly for money.
When
he started managing Shannon McMahon people were asking "when are
you going to step him up to big fights?" Maniatis does not
believe in rushing fighters but he now thinks its time for McMahon.
James
Grima came to Maniatis this year and the same people were saying that he
hasn't fought for 5 years and to "forget it" but Maniatis got
him a couple of quick wins and now he is fighting for the OPBF title.
In
his own words he said "I like Johnny Walker and Costa Chondros
because they listen and trust me" now both boxers are ready to step
up to big fights.
If
Chondros beats Jamie Wallace his next fight will be for the Australian
title.
Peter
Maniatis has been to America and Asia to check out the world boxing
scene and is ready to do a lot more for Australian Boxing.

Boxing Career Cut Short - exclusive to YVB

Peter
Maniatis disclosed something to Young Victor about himself he has never
told publicly.
This
was that he had personally started a boxing career that unfortunately was
prematurely halted.
Peter
in his own right has an unbeaten boxing record, he has only had 3 fights
and was forced to retire due to a shoulder injury at 28 years of age.
He
was trained by Kevin and Mick Hargraves in Port Melbourne.
In
1997 he won the VABA amateur novice heavyweight title in his first fight in
19 seconds of the first round over Mathew "wild" Childs who
hailed from Sydney but was based in Melbourne under the watchful eye of
Leo Berry,
In
Sydney later that year at the Bondi Eastern League Club against tough Chris
O'Sullivan, who hailed from Cronulla, and won that fight in the 2nd
round.
The
last fight was with the League in 1998 he won on points, but suffered a
bad shoulder injury that required surgery, that put him into
retirement and remained undefeated.
Having
got all this out of Peter Maniatis it seems that despite his young age he
is going to shake up boxing in Victoria in a big way and Young Victor
wishes him all the luck he can get for doing something that has seemed
impossible for years. "Resurrect Boxing at Festival Hall"
