8x3
Victorian Light Heavyweight title
Jon Walker 78.60 v Tim Bell 78.80
Winner: Tim Bell RSF 2:51 R4
Ref: James Boland
Judges: Ignatius Missailidis Andrew Campbell Wayne Ashdown
Headlining
the card were two local heroes in Tiger Tim Bell and Jon Walker, fighting
it out for Bell's Victorian Light Heavyweight title. It was only
Walker's 5th pro fight and previously unbeated, but he has impressed many
at Ringside with his previous performances showing style and power. Bell,
still recovering from injury and difficulties in finding sparring partners
needed a solid win to continue his career for bigger spoils and paydays
ahead. With both fighters attracting a large and vocal fan base it was
shaping up to be an explosive encounter.
The fireworks started from the first round, with both fighters keen to
dominate. However, it was Bells powerful body shots and accurate right
hands that took its toll on the raging Walker. Bell was cut in the 2nd
round, but it was ruled as an accidental head but by astute referee Jim
Boland. The 3rd and 4th rounds Bell clearly displayed his superiority as
Walker took an 8 count late in the fourth. Walker gained is feet only to
be swamped by Bell's missiles and referee Jim Boland called a halt to the
action 2:51 into the 4th round to save Walker from further punishment.
The win will put Bell into the running for a show down with current
Australian Light Heavyweight Campion Justin Clemments. ANBF Vice President
Bryan Membrey confirmed with Bell's Management at Ringside that he will be
"doing all he can" to get the fight on.
6x3
James Grima 91.30 v Terry Tuteru 145.00
Winner: James Grima RSF 1:50 R4
Ref: Ignatius Missailidis
Judges: Brett MCCormick Andrew Campbell Wayne Ashdown
The
main support featured the return of James Grima after almost a 5 year
absence. Grima's record has some impressive scalps on it with wins over
Daniel Rowsell and Bob Mirovic (twice). Grima has also unsuccessfully
faced the man mountain Kali Meehan on two occasions.
On this occasion Grima, 91.30kg, was up against a Kiwi challenger Terry
Tuteru weighing in at a massive 145kg. Grima showed the style and
power that made him a threat to the best around last decade. Grima,s
attack was savage and his punches had speed and intent. The referee saw
enough at the 1:50 mark of the 4th round after Tuteru took an 8 count on
the bell concluding the 3rd round.
PABA boss Frank Martinez was at ringside to witness Grima's return and
confirmed immediately after the contest to Grima's Manager and Promoter
Peter Maniatas that his next contest will be against WBA No 9
Cruiserweight Mohamed Azzaoui for the PABA title.
Grima's return to the Ring will add a new dimension to Victorian Boxing
with some quality big man action coming up.
6x3
Shannon McMahon 66.90 v David Wiremu 66.30
Winner: Shannan McMahon RSF 1:31 R5
Ref: James Boland
Judges: Brett McCormick Andrew Campbell Wayne Ashdown
Classy
fighter Shannon McMahon took on David Wiremu in a rematch. Wiremu is an
evasive fighter that has recorded wins over some impressive local talent
such as Mick OI'Malley, Nick Tetoros and has drawn with Steven Marks.
However, on this occasion McMahon was too much for the Kiwi and referee
Jim Boland halted the action 1:31 into the 5th round as McMahon's
aggression caused Wiremu to hit the canvas twice in the round.
McMahon is ready to step up to some 10 rounders and will worry the best in
his division.
6x2
Sean Connell 73.8 v Paul Le 74.7
Winner: Sean Connell unanimous points
Ref: Ignatius Missailidis
Judges: Brett McCormick 60:54 Andrew Campbell 60:64 Wayne Ashdown 60:53
The
opening contest saw the return of Victorian Paul Le in only his 2nd

precision over the 6 rounds and comfortably won the contest without losing
a round on all three Judges scorecards.
