Local
talent step up at Knox 27th
May 2005
Victoria's
leading Promoter Murray Thompson again put on an action packed program of
professional boxing at Knox on Friday night, 27 May, featuring some of
Victoria's most promising Boxers.
8x3
Justin Nolan (77.6) v Dave Dowden (84.7)
Ref: Malcolm Bulner
Judges: Chris Anderson (80:70) Bryan Membrey (80:71) Aneeka Williams
(80:71)
Winner J Nolan unanimous points
In the main event over 8 x 3 minute rounds Justin Nolan outpointed the
durable Dave Dowden. In the 4th round Dowden took the unusual action of
taking his boxing boots off and fought for the remainder of the contest in
bare feet. The bare footed Dowden marginally improved without the aid of
his boxing boots but did not have the answers for the high work rate and
solid and accurate punches of Nolan. Nolan should certainly be looking at
National honours and beyond if he continues to perform as well as he has
in his last 3 contents. Former National Champion and now Beechworth local
Long John McCubbin made the trip down to be in the corner of his former
charge and was pleased with Nolan's progress under his new trainer.
6x3
Eddie Delic (69.2) v Matt Burns (69.6)
Ref: Malcolm Bulner
Judges: Max Manning (58:57) Bryan Membrey (59:56) Aneeka Williams (58:56)
Winner E Delic unanimous points
The main support put local wild boy current State Welterweight Champ Eddie
"Phsyco" Delic against up and coming Queenslander Matt Burns.
Delic won by unanimous points and is showing glimpses of the form that
took him to a National welterweight title contest.
6x3
Petchubol Kianakornbol (70.0) v Isiaka Fataionikeke (64.5)
Ref: Malcolm Bulner
Judges: Max Manning Chris Anderson Aneeka Williams
Winner I Fataionikeke KO 2:08 R1
Former Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Isiaka Fataionikeke, formerly of
Nigeria now training at the Fighters Factory with Murray Thompson showed
an impressive style and power by easily stopping a game Thai import
Petchubol Kianakornbol in the first round. Thompson is cementing his place
as Victorian trainer of the Decade with a string of quality pupils under
his charge.
6x3
Prawit Patavikorngym (74.2) v Pradeep Singh (73)
Ref: Chris Anderson
Judges: Malcolm Bulner Bryan Membrey Aneeka Williams
Winner P Singh KO 0:55 R1
Thompson also trains the best prospect in Victorian Boxing today in
Pradeep Singh. Singh is a former unbeaten National Amateur champ of India
and has continued his winning streak in four contests as a Pro under the
Management of Thompson. Singh discharged his Thai opponent Prawit
Patavikorngym with a devastating body shot reminiscent of an era gone by.
In Sign's short professional career to date, he has caught the attention
of many experienced boxing people at Ringside.
4x2
Kim Lord (64.9) v Mirelle Walford (63.9)
Ref: Chris Anderson
Judges: Malcolm Bulner (40:37) Bryan Membrey (38:37) Max Manning (37:39)
Winner K Lord split points
An
action packed women's contest against Kim Lord and Mirelle Walford had the
judges at odds with each other, eventually awarding a split decision to Lord.
Although Welford seemed to be the crowd favourite over the 4 rounds.
6x3
Chris Collard (70.6) v Paola Sitshopa (71.3)
Ref: Max Manning
Judges: Chris Anderson (60:54) Bryan Membrey (60:54) Aneeka Williams
(60:54)
Winner C Collard unanimous points
Former world champion kickboxer, Chris Collard proved too tough for the
game Paola Sitshopa in a war of punches landing by both boys. Collard won
a unanimous points victory.
4x3
Kane McKay (76.1) v Clinton Johnson (74.9)
Ref: Max Manning
Judges: Malcolm Bulner (39:37) Bryan Membrey (40:37) Aneeka Williams
(39:36)
Winner K McKay unanimous points
Local boy Clinton Johnson found it too hard to work out the style of
Queenslander Kane Mckay despite landing some big bombs. Johnson suffered
his first defeat by unanimous points but will learn from the encounter and
come back stronger and smarter next time.

It
was pleasing to see so many former Champions at Ringside with Lionel Rose,
John Famechon, Barry Michael and Frank Ropis all enjoying the action.
Australian Bantamweight Champion Shane Brock was presented with the
coveted Australian Title belt by Australian Boxing Federation Victorian
President Bryan Membrey in centre ring. A crowd favourite, Brock has an
action packed style that will see him progress to even bigger triumphs if
given the opportunities under the watchful eye of trainer Steve Kerr..
Local hero Leigh Purcell was at ringside and can hardly wait for a
promised bout against former National Champion Alan Luxford. If the fight
can come off it will be a guaranteed last man standing affair.
