On Friday November 20th, Victorian Promoter of the Year Peter Maniatis
will present an excellent six-fight card billed as the
"Elite Cranes Cup". The
fight night will take place at the Melbourne's traditional home of
championship boxing, Malvern Town Hall.
Headlining the excellent top to bottom card will be
Shannon "The Man" McMahon
who will face local rival
Eddie "Psycho" Delic
in a matchup that looks set to be one of the best local fights of
the year. The highly credited local warriors have both held the
Australian Title at separate times and will both be looking to take that
one step further when they fight for the vacant WBF Intercontinental
light-middleweight title. A win for either fighter will boost their
stocks dramatically as some of the previous title holders of the WBF
Intercontinental title include the undefeated former IBF middleweight
world champion Arthur Abraham as well as the undefeated current
Commonwealth and British light-welterweight champion Ajose Olusegan.
Both Delic and McMahon are coming off very credible and highly praised
performances against the world rated WBO #9 Ryan Waters. Delic lost a
very close points decision earlier in the year to Waters, whereas
McMahon lost to Waters via a very controversial stoppage which McMahon
was winning on all three judges scorecards.
The semi-main event will be a historic event as highly touted prospect
Heath "The Heat" Ellis
attempts to become one of only two Australians to
currently hold more than one version of an Asian regional title. Ellis
will take on highly rated Thai prospect
Denkamol "Krabi Kid" Kiatchanachai.
Over recent months a war of words has taken place between the two camps
in a fight that has been scheduled to take place for over six months.
Ellis and Kiatchanachai were originally booked in to fight for the IBO
World Youth welterweight title, however after Ellis injured his bicep
during training the fight had to be postponed. Up for grabs will be
Ellis' IBF Pan Pacific welterweight title as well as the interim WBC
Asian Boxing Council and PABA welterweight titles.
If Ellis is successful, he will not only be the unified champion of Asia
but he will also be the first Australian to win the prestigious WBC
Asian Boxing Council title in its glorious twenty-eight year history.
Also on the card will be a Victorian title double-header.
The first of the two will pit the recently returned and former champion
Nick Lantouris up
against defending champion
Joe D'Angelo in a very
interesting matchup between two very classy but aged warriors.
The second Victorian title fight will feature
The Contender Australia's
Pradeep Singh against
respected Kiwi
Lee Oti. In his professional
career so far, Singh has previously held the OPBF and PABA middleweight
titles and will look at this fight as a springboard to more potentially
big matchups between some of the best fighters in Australasia. In one of
Oti's more recent fights, he dropped a very competitive points decision
to two-time world title challenger Rob Medley in a very exciting
contest.
Opening up the night will be two very entertaining fights between pro
debutants
Terry Tzouramanis
and
Seb Harris
as well as
Jaimie Bogavic
who will be making his pro debut against the always tough
Jamie Middleton.
